Sam & Max: Season One

Developer: Telltale Games Publisher: The Adventure Company
Release Date: October 14, 2008 Available On: PC & Wii

The Sam & Max franchise goes back a long way. It originally started as a point and click PC game by the name of Sam & Max: Hit the Road back in 1993. Lucas Arts promised a revival but never delivered on it, selling the rights to the franchise to TellTale Games. Since 2006 the indie developer has been busy at work releasing episodic versions of the franchise with new games coming out every month or so. Sam & Max: Season 1 is the first six episodes in the series.

Sam & Max: Season 1 retails for only $30 and it comes packed with six games. These include Culture Shock; Situation Comedy; The Mole, the Mob and the Meatball; Abe Lincoln Must Die; Reality 2.0; and Bright Side of the Moon. Each episode is roughly three hours in length, so you will get about 18-20 hours of playtime from this package.

As far as the controls go, the Wii Remote does a great job of functioning as a mouse. Basically since this game is nothing but point and click, you use the Wii Remote to point the cursor and click whatever objects or people you want to interact with. The entire game is based around the idea of experimentation. If you don't like to go through a ton of dialogue and think outside of the box, this probably is not the game for you.

Fans of the Sam & Max series or adventure games in general should seriously consider picking up Sam & Max: Season 1. It's available for both PC and Wii, making it one of the only point and click adventure games on consoles. The comedy is funny at times, if not a little dry and the stories are always interesting, to say the least. Best of all it is cheap. You can't go wrong with a price tag of $30.
