The N64 was home to the first version of Mario Party a while back. This was a fun game with addicting mini games people wanted to play. The N64 saw two more Mario Party games, and after that came the GameCube. The little purple box saw Mario Party 4, but it was old and tiresome; it had too much of the same old thing. Can Mario Party 5 bounce back and revive the series?
Like most games with Mario’s name on it, the graphics are very good. The cartoony world is perfect for a game like this to take place in. There are not many art lines and really no frame rate problems that screw up the game. There are slight frame rate problems when you are hitting the dice, but that has always been there in every Mario Party game. It would have been nice to see it fixed on the GameCube though.
Mario Party 5 sounds pretty basic. This will not win “game with best sound�, but it gets the job done. The basic “woohoo� and “I am the winner� is all you get from voice talent; that is, if you even need voice talent for that. Music is good for the game, but tends to get really annoying after a while to the older generation of players; it could have been a lot better.
This game is simple enough for a four year old to play. The mini games are not that hard and neither is the board play. The gameplay here is a lot better than 3 & 4, but it is too simple still. It is easy to take advantage of the computer, even on the hardest difficulty settings.
You may play Mario Party 5 for only a month or so before you get bored of it. There are plenty of other board game titles around that are doing a lot more to try and stand out. Mario Party 5 is basically the same game as the original with barely any innovations. You should pick up a different party game before this; that is, unless you are a Mario collector. As for a purchase, if you have little kids that don’t know any better, you should rent it for them and see how much they like it before you buy it.
